I bought a large tool set from sears that came in a case, but when i close the case all the sockets fall out of place anyways. I need a better way to organize them so I dont have to look through the pile everytime i need a certain socket.

Go back to Sears and buy a socket rack, see link. Many different styles, from cheap clip on to magnetic.

Go to a fabric store. They sell a piece of equipment which is multilevel dowels. It holds (depending on what you choose) anyware from 12 to 80 spools of thread. The dowels are about 2" high, and spaced about 2" apart. It is usually wood. You can put the sockets on the dowels, label them with permanent marker, and then see at a glance what they are. Won't work, however, if you are keeping your sockets outside. In that instance, go back to sears, buy their really large rolling tool box, and it has inserts so that you can put the sockets into the top
