one question, are you a retard? I knew that question when i was in like 1st grade! it means when you look at a map, you find the mississippi River then if you don't know what West is Look at the compass Rose or look LEFT of the mississippi and its all of the USA left of the mississippi or WEST

In the U.S. the Mississippi River is a huge waterway, running North to South. When America was a growing country the lands (and people) to the East of the river were seen as more settled and civilized. Those to the West of the river were seen as rougher and wilder, but the West offered enormous opportunities for settlement, prosperity, and saloons with those funny little swinging doors.
