get some ant traps , and boric acid put the ant traps around any area you have seen them or think they be , and spread the boric acid around any entrance area - doors windows etc... keep any and all food tightly sealed, and clean your counter tops real good with soap and bleach to make sure there are no traces to attract them, best wishes!

I have the same problem. Although it depends on the ants, if they are large, than they are carpenter ants and they will be harder to get rid of. If they are small, they are easier.

The small ants are attracted to food; sugars particularly. Generally an ant trap is the best way. I was told white vinegar works, but it is only a temporary solution. I would try and remove any garbage or food from the vicinity of the ants. Use an ant trap and try and seal any holes they may be coming through, window caulk works well for this.

If you do have carpenter ants, than you have a larger problem. They live in and eat wood. They are more resistant to traps and arent necessarily attracted to foodstuffs. In their case I would tell the landlord and have an exterminator come in, they could be a symptom of a larger problem like a water leak and decayed wood.

I totally understand how aggravating they can be. Good Luck!

A few things you can do.
#1. Ant Traps (Maxattrax are the best I've used and cheaper than Raid) will take the bait back to the nest wherever they are living. This will kill the Queen in turn destroying the colony.
#2. Use a good spray around the windows, doors, baseboards, etc. Bug Stop Clear is very good. 9 month control.
Do not use in the kitchen though. In there find a bug spray made for kitchens (Hot Shot makes a Kitchen Bug Killer that contains a botanical insecticide = pyrethrin)
#3. To keep them away, don't allow food to sit out. Clean your floors and anywhere you saw an ant walking very good. This will hide the trail. (Unless you are using the antbaits tben you want them taking the bait back inititally, then clean).

One time my cat threw up on my bed while I was gone for a few hours and when I came back there was a huge mass of ants all over my bed and bedroom carrying the vomit off to their home. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life. I did my best to clean up, spent like an hour cleaning the vomit then brushing the ants of my bed so I could wash my bedding without a bunch of ants all over it. Then I vacuumed all the ants I could. I still had a problem after that though because their friends remembered that they had found the wonderful tasty treat on my bed before, so I bought some little round ant traps. That took care of the problem in a few days. I felt bad about the massacre, but it's their own fault for eating cat vomit.

I use this stuff called Terro. It's a clear liquid in a small bottle. You pour a little bit on a small piece of paper and put it anywhere you have seen ants. One or two on the counters, a few here and there on the floors, in the cupboards, etc. The ants will be all over it for a day or so then they go somewhere and die and you don't see anymore after that. I have used this every year for several years. I usually get it in the supermarket or hardware store. It only works for the little ants not the great big ones though. Good luck. I hate them little buggers don't you?

First do you have kids or pets? Actually it doesn't matter you just have to put it up higher. I had ants in my kitchen in the beginning of summer and now I just had them in my basement last week I use Terro works great. Get it at a hardware store. It is a liquid (they have other types this is the kind I used) that goes on these little squares that are on the box. The ants pick it up and bring it back to the colony and it kills them. It takes about 2 days but I haven't had an ant in either room since. Put it right where the ants are traveling, keep filling up the cardboard as they eat it all. Hope you trythis it WORKED for me

Answer - There are three very economical things you can do in combination that should rid your home of ants.

The first step is to get rid of anything that's attracting them. Sugar and other sweets, and greases or fats of any kind are usually the major attractants. A lid on the sugar bowl won't stop them (as you probably know), so use air tight containers for that and cookies, cakes and the like. Don't leave greasy pans or platters more than a few minutes. Wipe cabinets and floors with a cup of vinegar in a couple of quarts of water.

The second step is to put a barrier between the ants and you. Anything in crystal or flake form can be used to deter them. Salt, black pepper, red pepper, talcum powder... the list goes on. (Used coffee grounds are said to be especially effective, even against fire ants.) Why does this work? Imagine yourself faced with a shoulder high snow drift that's too soft to hold your weight. Would you go through it if you didn't have to? Neither would I!

Thirdly, attack their hills. Pour boiling water down the main entrance to each hill you can find. Use at least a gallon to each hill. You might have to do this two or three times, but it will work. You can try borax mixed with flour around the base of your house or near their hills, but boiling water is cheaper, safer and more efficient, as ants are selective about what they eat.

you can wipe your house with vinegar, or if you have carpets you can use ants powder sold in farm and garden stores

Try this tip, I tried it, and it's work really well.
Soak a cigarrete into 2 cups of water for about 8 hours, make sure it should cover completely in the water. Then brush, or pour that solution at some places where the ants usually appear. Do it once everyday. You will see those ants gone about four days after that. Make sure your house should always stay clean, and wipes the floor right away everytimes it's get messy with food.

depends on the type of ant..but most likely it is a pavement ant (sugar ant). if it is then the best is baits, make sure it is recommende for the type of ant you have b/c if you put carpenter ant bait ant for a sugar ant or vise versa it is useless, put the bait as close to the nest as possible, find this by determining where the most ants are, DO NOT SPRAY AROUND THE BAIT AT ALL, it is important that the ants make it to the bait, and bring it back to the nest, if you spray near the bait the ants will die before getting to it, it is good to see ants in the baits the more the better..soon they will kill off the queen. when you start seeingthem going for the bait, you may be able to determine better where the nest is,move bait as close to the nest as possible..it will kill anythingthat is alive inthe nst, but you may get a hatch a little after, b/c it will not kills the eggs, usually after the second time of doing this you will kill off the entire nest.

or call an EXTERMINATOR, if it is Carpenter ants you should do this anyway..if it is a treantal apartment..call your landlord

I had an ant problem for a couple days. I would have a bowl of cereal in the morning, leave the bowl, and it would be covered in ants when i got home from work.

Well, another morning I left a half glass of orange juice sitting... and when I came home I found probably ~500 ants dead in the glass. I let the glass sit there for another day and MORE ants were found dead inside. It has been 2 days since I did this and I havent seen anymore ants.
