You should have called two days after dropping off your application. It shows desire and can separate you from the other applicants.

Whenever anyone applies with me, I never call them back. Ever. I make them call me, and never return their first two calls. When I get the third call, that is when I either take the call or return their call. Working for me is a privilege, and I will not hire any slackers who think they are entitled to a job. I want my workers to earn their spot, as do the employees I have. I owe it to my customers and my employees to make sure that they work only with people who want to be there.

I think it's time that you checked. I hope that you have continued to look for other jobs instead of just waiting. While there is really no way around waiting for a potential employer's response, in 2006 they rarely tell you that they have decided against you.

Check with the employer, realize that how they deal with you is a good leading indicator regarding how they will treat you later if you are hired, and whatever you do, keep looking.

normally when i interview, i ask how long it should be before we will wait before we are notified of the position status. if you didn't ask, then i would say you could call after a week to ask what is the status of the position. they still may be interviewing after a week, but i don't see harm in calling to inquire.

I would call the place you applied at and asked if they looked at your application. Places like if you call because it looks like you are interested in the job.

I would call ASAP to check on the progress. Most places will wait for you to call. It shows initiative.
