As long as you put him in a cool security uniform so people know he really means business. That, and him flailing around shooting off bullets should intimidate most people. Giving him a prison tatt will really round off the image.

Only if you live in one of the 45 states that allow monkeys to obtain a gun licence.
Or one of the 5 states that don't require monkeys to have a licence to pack a gun.

Yes, I have done it many times before, just make sure the first bullet in the clip is a blank so when you get home and he shoots at you the first time you won't get hit, that should give you time to attack and disarm him before he gets the second shot off.

Well, do you want your chimp to still be alive, minus holes, when you get home? If you answer yes, then I suggest you not leave the gun with it. If you answer no, then sure, go ahead, leave it with the gun, it'll be just fine!
