Let us assume Lebanon gets rid of Hizbollah and is now a democracy again. It is important that like any sovereign country Lebanon should be able to defend itself against Israel, Syria and the world. However, this will require arming lebanon army like the Israelie army. Lebanon should not be at the mercy of its powerful neighbors who can destroy it at will.

IF Hezbollah were gone and Lebanon was willing to let Israel live in peace then there would be no war. No need for either side to defend itself against the other. But Lebanon will not stop Hezbollah. If anything, they plan to the Lebanese army join with Hezbollah in fighting Israel. Hezbollah is a militant terrorist organization. Some of its members have been elected and sit in the Lebanese parliament. So, no, America should not arm the Lebanese army.

A democratic Lebanon is still an Islamic country. All Islamic countries don't particularly like Israel. They (Islamic countries) may compromise for a while but if they get the chance they'll pounce on Israel in no time. If Israel had been a Christian country instead of Jewish, the Islamic countries will treat them the same way. You see what's going on in the Middle East is not a political nor an ethnic war but a religious war.

If it is a truly democratic Lebanon, then yeah, arm them to the teeth. Democracies typically don't fight against other democracies.
