It is my favorite DVD set...The interviews with the real soldiers of Easy Company is the icing on the cake. The closest thing to it is "Saving Private Ryan", but even that pales in comparison when you are talking about depth and storyline. Fiction vs history.
The first 15 minutes of Private Ryan are incredible, but BoB stays strong all the way through...well, except maybe the first episode...a little slow, but still good.

I was so impressed with that series - just very well done, start to finish. Excellent writing, effects and especially amazing casting. Much much better than many of the WW2 feature films. Definitive even. Not sure who or what could top it. The pre-D-Day footage and effects were amazing in particular. I think that they got as close to reality as possible for those of us who weren't there. The veterans certainly appreciated the accuracy and were very pleased with it.

There were some complaints when it first aired in the UK that it was too much of an American focus, but as it chose to follow a single unit, of course it was told from that particular viewpoint. There had to be a singular focus to tell the story. If you followed all the story-lines of all the players in a World War you would never stop filming.

It's one of my favorites for the war WW2 genre. Also loved The Pianist, but that's a different theme altogether

It's fascinating and depressing. I don't know if it's the best ever (I wasn't there and have no basis for comparison), but I think it subtly and effectively shows the wide range of emotions and situations those soldiers experienced and how they changed as a result, and the effects and techniques make the viewer feel like he's part of the action. The plane/paratrooper shots (the ones where they're in the air) are absolutely amazing.

Definitely, its such a powerful series, I think they've managed to achieve that by doing so much research and having so many real people tell them what went on so there were so many angles to show one event from and it really emphasises how the group had to work together to stay alive. Not only is it the best WW2 series but the best true life series as well. The big budget helped it be more convincing as well.

I think that Speilberg and Hanks have done a very good job of presenting the story of our GIs very well not only in Band of Brothers, but in Saving Private Ryan. Schindler's List is another amazing film. My Grandfather served in the 48th Combat Engineer Battalion in N. Africa, Italy, and France, and lost his left foot rescuing a French child from a mine field. His older brother was in the 101st Airborne, but I don't know which regiment. But yes, B of B is an amazing story and was adapted and filmed beautifully. If you haven't yet, read the book.

It's fantastic. I thought that with Tom Hanks's involvement as executive producer or whatever it was, it might have been overly sentimental or too jingoistic, but i was wrong. If only all TV dramas were like this.

I would agree that Band of Brothers is, indeed, an excellent mini-series.
