Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Character Map
This program allows you to copy any character to the clipboard. It is down a few pages. Highlight the character, press the "select" button, then the "copy" button. It is now in your clipboard - you can now paste in wherever you want.

I have Windows xp and running AT&T yohoo DSL as my internet provider.
left click the start button
left click all programs
locate Accessories
1).. When the accessories menu appears, locate system tools
2). a system tooks menu will appear, locate Character Map.
3). Left click on the characer Map
4). CHARACTER Map wil apear
5). select the font of choice. I selected Arial or Ludida Sans Unicode. Both fonts contain the Square Rot Radical Sign.
6). Scroll down until you find the Square Rot Radical Sign.
7). Click on the Radical Sign.
8). Pres the select buton
9). Then press Copy

You can insert the radicl sign â into any equation where it is needed by right clicking and select paste.

Look in the character map, or for some apps, sqrt(2) works to communicate the idea of â2.
