All depends on when the baby is ready to face the world. If you or the baby is in any type of danger then the doctor would induce or do a c-section. I am 7 months and already my baby weighs over 5 pounds according to my last ultrasound and I still have 2 months to go. Be patient and if all is good with mommy and baby, enjoy this time together that only you and the baby have. If you want more information, go to Americanbaby.com or Baby.com they have some nice articles on things like this. Good luck...

It's hard not to be anxious when your due date comes and goes and you're still hugely pregnant (especially when well-meaning family and friends keep calling to check on your status!). But don't fret — you won't be pregnant forever. There's a good chance you'll go into labor on your own this week, and if you don't, you'll be induced by 42 weeks, or earlier if you or your baby has any problems.
The methods your practitioner uses to induce labor will depend on the condition of your cervix. If your cervix hasn't started to soften, efface (thin out), or dilate (open), it's considered "unripe," or not yet ready for labor. In that case, your practitioner will use either hormones or "mechanical" methods to ripen your cervix before the induction. Sometimes these will end up jump-starting your labor as well. Depending on your situation, the procedures can include stripping or rupturing your membranes, or using drugs like oxytocin (Pitocin) to start your contractions. If these and other methods don't work, you'll end up having a c-section

Usually the doctor will induce labor or do a c-section 2 weeks after the due date if the baby hasn't come by then. Any longer is dangerous for mom and baby.

You can have your baby 2 week before and 2 weeks after your due date. When the Dr gives you a date it isn't the exact date you will have the baby but a estimated time. My oldest son I had a week before and my youngest son I had 4 days before. The Dr won't allow it to go any farther than 2 weeks after he/she will talk about inducing you because the placenta deteriorates.

The due date is just a rough estimate.
Generally, women can give birth as soon as 2 weeks BEFORE the due date, up to 2 weeks AFTER with no complications. Your dr will know when to induce you if nature doesn't take it's course.

it all depends if there ready to come out. my mom had to wait two weeks after her due date for my little sister to be born. an after two weeks if the baby isn't born there probably going to take you i an make you have a z-section, otherwise the baby could be born with problems.

Most babies are born within two weeks of their due date, either before or after. Full term pregnancy is defined by anything after 38 weeks. So, two weeks early is not considered premature, and most doctors will not let a woman go further than a week past her due date.

Usually your doctor will induce labor if the baby is not born by the 42 week. If this doesn't happen the baby will continue to grow and this could cause major problems for mother and baby.

The doctor won't let you go over a certain time if you are late. He would probably induce labor. (not fun from what I've heard)
My child came early, and my labor went quick there was no time for medications. I didn't have an episitiomy. My husband couldn't believe he took me to the hospital and we arrived at 9:00 am and she was born at 9:01 so we barely got to the hospital in time. I didn't have much pain at all. So I wasn't really sure I was in labor, I was just slightly uncomfortable. So it all depends.

i never went into labor on my own and had to be induced! my doctor only let me go a week past because i was so uncomfortable!!! but let me tell you, being induced is not the best thing that ever happened to me. i had extremely painful contractions at 5,3,and 2 minute intervals for 10 hours before my cervix was even dilated to 7 cm - enough to get the pain relief i needed!!! very scary and painful for me, but it was all worth it for my lovely daughter, now five months old! if you happen to be late, my doctor suggested doing a lot of walking and being as active as you can to help the baby descend into your pelvis more and help labor start. some swear by having sex...but once you get to that week-overdue mark you'd probably try just about anything, no matter how crappy you feel!
