they can if they start trying to develop players from the youth ranks or even looking for good young players that are hindered by class and creed and money.

Yes. but very unlikely.
For 2010 South Africa World Cup, AFC (Asian Football Conf.) probably will get about 4 spots. (maybe even 3.5 or 4.5)
You know definitely Korea (6th consecutive World Cup & 4th Place in 2002 World Cup) will make it.
Australia has joined AFC and they will probably make it also. (Round of 16 in 2006 World Cup).
Japan, the defending AFC champions are good and they should get a spot. (Round of 16 in 2002 World Cup.)
And there's one more spot where Saudi Arabia, China, or Iran are other favorites to make it.
And also don't forget about Uzebkistan and Bahrain. Bahrain only lost to Trinidad&Tobago in World Cup playoffs to narrowly miss the 2006 World Cup.
So India to make it to the 2010 World Cup is very unlikely.
However miracles happens and dreams do come true so ....

for soccer... i doubt that they will qualify for the world cup in 2010 because they are currently ranked at about 107.. somewhere around there... for cricket they will definately qualify and hopefully they will win!

Maybe one day...with such a huge population, you'd have to think it would be possible to develop a reasonable team eventually.
