In other words, will you use less gasoline for AC by turning dow the fan speed? (you get less cool of course)

Unfortunately, this doesn't happen. Whether your fan speed is on low, in the middle, or high, it has no effect on how much the A/C compressor cycles if the A/C is on. So, if you run the A/C, have your fan speed set to whatever you feel is comfortable. If you can live without A/C, then by all means turn it off.

No the compressor speed is not controlled by the fan switch. Compressor speed is controlled by the fan belt and the a/c clutch. Fan speed moves more air inside car so like anything if you move more air you feel colder air standing still or moving less absorbers more heat thus is warmer. Not a gas saver. If you want to save gas do not turn it all the way to cold that will turn the compressor off faster.

the compressor is belt driven by the engine. the only way to save gas in a car with a/c is to turn off the a/c. the compressor speed will always be the same as the speed of the engine rpm's regardless of your blower fan speed. (2 seperate things).
