In 1948 the Europeans wanted somewhere to dump their jews, the jews wanted a homeland of their own so Great Britain, France, Spain and other countries decided to give the jews a homeland in the mideast. Being that the jews had always considered that area of the mideast as their homeland and had been living and moving there the UN decided to give them the area. The people living there, not all jewish by the way, were kind of upset that they had to give some of their desert away. Guess they still are upset and instead of accepting the jews they've fought them tooth and nail ever since.

Basically, Israel occupies land that the Palestinians and other Muslims feel is their holy land. This goes WAY back.
