I can confirm that it is The Bicycle Thieves (or The Bicycle Thief, the same film is known by both names) as I watched it recently. My favorite part is when a delivery boy sees Martin Scorsese and says "Hey, your Martin Scorsese!" and he replies "Yeah, I know Harvey Keitel." in a really show- off- ey way!

Agree with Nick, although I can't exactly think of the name of the movie. Bicycle Thief or Thief on a Bicycle or something like that.
A friend (OK acquaintance) is an extra in that movie, I'm sure this will make your day.
