So do any of you lifeguard or took the test to lifeguard?
How many lengths of swimming do you have to do?
What are some obsticales you have? Is it easy OR hard?
Is there any way you can train before you try taking the lifeguarding test?

I have been a lifeguard for four years. While there isn't too much swimming while on the job, in the training there is. For American Red Cross training it is required that the participant swim 20 laps: 8 front crawl, 8 breastroke, and 8 of their choice between the two. For the obstacles, in my class we lifted a ten pound diving brick from the bottom of the pool and swam about 20 meters with it above the water. It really isn't too difficult if you are in shape and know how to properly swim (as any lifeguard should be).

I'm a lifeguard and, when I took the test, I think it was about 20 lengths. Mostly freestlye and some breastroke. You will probably have to tread water for one length holding a weight above the water and retrieve one from the bottom of the pool. Swimming would be the best way to train for the test, so go to the pool every day and build up your endurance. Hope it goes well.
