Some people think that the global war on terrorism which is clearly a global war is World War III. In addition, there is a clear clash of cultures between radical islam and the west, which without the utmost care could easily turn into a world war.

This skirmish in Iraq will never turn into a world war. To be a world war more than than the US have to be involved and few countries are helping or even want to be named of involved in this whole middle east mess. But you, sadly probably in a lot of our lifetimes there will probably be another world war. It seems every so many years a large conflict occurs and the way the world is going now it will inevitably happen. Probably more with a country who is more a threat than the middle east like a communist country like Korea or its neighbor China or a country with similar beliefs and military power.
