The coolest thing about Pulp Fiction is that the narrative is non-linear. The order of the sequences on the film do not correspond to a linear progression of time.
Willis' character kills Travolta's the day after the events of the cafeteria take place.

Bruce Willis killer John when he went back to go get his fathers watch and at the apartment John was taking a dump and when he came out Bruce took his gun that was sitting on the counter and shot him. The movie pulp fiction does not go in order kind of like Sin City which is another great movie.

The opening/last scene is John and Sam Jackson are in the diner and it is after the diner they go to the club which is where the two of them cross looks. From there Bruce then has his fight in which Marcel (Big Boss) losses the money Thanks to Bruce not throwing the fight. So this is why John is at Bruce's apartment the next day to kill him or get the money back. Bruce then Kills John. End of story..... Sorry it is a little long.

***Spoilers***

The different scenes are out of chronological order. In order:

John Travolta and Samual L. Jackson pick up the drugs, kill Martin, get the wolf's help.

The diner attempted robbery, when Samual L. Jackson decides to walk the earth.

Travolta and Jackson return the drugs when Ving Rhames is buying off Bruce Willis. Jackson tells Rhames he quits

Travolta takes Uma Thurman on their date

Willis double-crosses Rhames and doesn't throw the fight.

Willis kills Travolta.

Willis and Rhames become, um, buddies.

Willis leaves.

***
I see the movie as a tale of redemption. Samual L. Jackson reforms from his life of crime and lives; John Travolta doesn't reform and karma catches up with him.
