Something like 42% of Americans will see some type mental health worker in thier lives. As a therapist, I can tell you, there are no shortage of individuals who need help. In our culture it is often not appropriate to talk about inner most feelings, however a therapist is the perfect venue as the client is protected by the highest levels of confidentiality.

I attended sessions with a psychologist for a couple years. It was a great experience. I learned self esteem in therapy. I now believe that all of us should see a therapist at some point. Its a wonderful experience that can help people solve their own internal issues, but the people must want the help before it will work.

Whatever the percentage is, not enough american citizens are getting the therapy they need. Come and take a peek for yourself. Or better yet, spend a day at this site. Most people here use a keyboard because even crayons are too risky;)

Very common. I did it when I was in my teens and my early 20s. It's very confidential and they only mention anything outside of the consultation if it's regarding drug or alcohol abuse.
The counselor is non-accusative and you're in a non-accusative setting where someone helps you work out your problems.

I think it's probably common in some areas and is some economically blessed areas (psychiatrists are expensive). I don't personally know anyone who sees a psychiatrist.

not common, but sometimes it is good to open up. Americans are the race who can open up; however, sometimes they over do.
