I can't believe I'm answering this...
OK, in A v. P the plot is that the Predator's put Aliens on the planet...the Aliens were there as a Predator right of passage, so they could become big strong Predator-men or whatever...The humans are just Alien food...(This is consistent with Predator 2 where there's an Alien head in the Predator's ship)...We are supposed to assume that the predators put the aliens on other planets too...Like the planet the original crew of the Alien movie lands on...
So you see, it's perfectly logical...although I actually hated A v. P

the story about aliens and preditor are one of the same. The preditors breed the aliens to hunt. they sent them out in ships to different unknown planets and then they could go there and hunt. The aliens stayed dormant until they had a person to incubate in. Preditors and aliens have been around for centuries so they may still be alive in the furture. Check out the comics and books.

Aliens vs Predator was a series of comics and graphic novels which were around in about 1991-92. The movie guys must have seen one of these and thought 'hey, what a great idea...' thrown in a present time human element and before you know it, you have a mediocre holywood adaptation of a cracking series of graphic novels.
Aliens and predators must have crossed paths before, as in Predator 2 there is quite clearly and Alien skull in the predator's trophy room in the bit where Danny Glover is aboard his ship. Quite how the aliens ended up on this planet is a mystery...
You might also be warned that at about the same time as the AvsP comics were out there followed a series of Robocop vs Terminator comics too. Don't be surprised if that one ends up as a dire film too.

Maybe it's not related... don't think I can remember them mentioning that they knew what was at the site. Only that they'd gone to investigate. Guess the alien part would have been a surprise... did everyone die at the end? Its a good point if not cause than in the alien films they should have known what they were dealing with!
Another good question is why with two such great franchises and even, surprisingly, great games; did the film sulk so much?? Such a shame...

I don' know, that movie totally didn't make any sense to me, Aliens are from a totally different planet in the future and the original predator landed on earth somehow. How they ever came be together unerground on earth is weird.

It is explained to u in the movie. Aliens have been coming to earth for thousands of years, they use the site like a training ground.

Basically they both came from outer space and the Preditors were more advanced and used them to train and why not do it on earth since to them WE are primative.
And of course the $$$...2 great movie monsters in one flick usually spells BIG $$$...

let me make it simple for you, Alien versus Predator at the end of the film there is only one person left, the woman and the place shes at is virtually destroyed, it doesnt actually show her leave that place, therfore we must assume she has either died there or she would never dream of speaking about it again through fear of being bandished mad, being a doctor that would be a huge mistake. Therfore we must assume that no body ever hears about the aliens and means the marines in the future would not know they exist.........TA DA

because these aliens have been around for a long time... they can exist in the present and future and movies are not always made in order. look at the star wars movies for example...
