I am 27 year old female and since about 2 days my right leg feels like it is asleep. The whole leg tingles and it is getting worse. I didn't injure myself recently - it just started on its own.
I don't have health insurance, but should I consulte a doctor???

there is a 90 percent chance that this is from the last 2 vertebraes in your lumbar spine, smaller percentage that it is from muscular imbalances pinching on that nerve. Some chiropractors offer free evaluations. Recent injury not the only cause, posturally related or past injuries can also be the cause. Before going to the chiropractor, try putting arch supports in your shoes, look at your work desk chair, put a small pillow behind you in your car seat to take the pressure off of your back. Also can do hamstring stretches and bringing your knees to your chest several times to relieve the back pressure. you can email me anytime with other questions - no charge drdeb@wilkshire.net
Probably not restless leg syndrome - way different symptoms. Not a lack of oxygen - it is a pinched nerve. Blood clots normally are quite tender to touch in the region that the clot is stuck in. If this worsens, contact a chiropractor or go to the ER. It is possible that this is a herniated disc but if it is, this symptom alone is quite mild and should respond to some easy techniques.

If it were me, I would consult a doctor. There are so many things that could cause that - some serious and some not. It could be as simple as a pinched nerve, but it could be as serious as a blood clot. Never mess with a blood clot!! It could even be restless leg syndrome. If you have a nice doctor, perhaps you could call the office and talk to the nurse and see if they think you should come in. I would take whatever advice they give you! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

It might be a herniated disk. There is a nerve that runs down your spine to your leg. Something can happen to a disk that puts pressure on this nerve, causing the problem you describe.

There is a simple test. Lay on your back and have someone try to keep you from flexing your foot like you were trying to stand on your tip toes. If you have a herniated disk, you will see a substantial difference between your left and right foot.

That being said, the best thing to do is just see your doctor.

"IF" it is restless leg syndrome, I know one of the things that helped me was Calcium/mag. (add Vita. "D" - 400 mg. if it's not already in it). and "red clover" caps (can get anywhere). If it's a pinched nerve, you probably need to seek out a message. therapist (you have no insurance). Perhaps a good Christian one would work with you (or bless you with free) on the price. Chiropractors expensive but sometimes there are some really nice ones that will work with you when finances are tough. (PS) red clover can thin blood so you need to be careful. I take everyday with no problems with to thin (but that's me). Always educate yourself and become knowledgeable on supplements. Especially if your on meds. (example: to be on a heart med. and to eat licorish can be fatal). ALWAYS be careful with mixing. Also....just a little note that most people are "acidic" and should be "alkaline". Very important to try to get your ph over to the alkaline side. I highly recommend finding the high alkaline foods to your diet. Barley-green is one that is very high and many reported good benefits to it. I think a good place to start would be to speak to someone very knowledable about suppliments, messages, homopathic remedies, etc. Unless it's something medically serious....you may just find some answers in the homopathic area. But don't let them sell you a bunch of stuff. Find someone sincere and honest and knowledgable. Keep it simple and don't get overwhelmed with "info. overload" ! Carrie

It usually is a pinced nerve causing this. You might try alleve, two tablets first dose then follow instructions on bottle and rest. If this doesn't help consult a doctor you may need further treatment .

How do you sleep (position). Is your sugar level good, do you exercise, do you have low back pain. If no to all then have you ever twisted that ankle, stubbed the toe or been in a car acident?

Ultimately, exercise and change sleep position. A Doc could help.
