ok this happened to me three times already (once in coffee, once in toilet, once in puddle) and I was able to save it all three times. hopefully you were able to grab it out of there fast enough so the coffee didn't soak into the circuit boards. ok, here are the magic steps to getting your phone to work again:
1) remove battery ASAP
2) dry off as much as possible using paper towel, let it drain out of there. dry battery too.
3) place in a warm spot (but don't cook it!) and definitely do NOT put it in the microwave oven -- it will burn it up! (microwaves and metal do not mix.)
4) wait ... could be a few days, could be a week.
5) put battery back in and power up
OK, if you don't want to do #4, then I have had good luck with the hair drier method. PUt the hair drier on warm or hot and blow over the phone, top and bottom, don't let it blow only in one place, but not too close, don't want to overheat it. This could take a while -- this method worked when I dropped the phone in the toilet. Strange though, nobody wanted to borrow my phone after that, I wonder why :-)
If nothing works and you've waited a week and it's still dead, then you have nothing to lose but to cook in the regular oven, lowest temp you can set, for 1/2 hour. You can try your service provider technician, but they are unlikely to help much; they're interested in selling phones. Ask about renewing your contract; they'll give you one for free or at reduced price. If not then look on ebay, I've had a lot of success buying phones there with no problems -- just be careful, make sure they aren't stolen phones. In the future, buying insurance might make sense for you .. for around $5 a month, you can get a plan with $50 deductible.. this helps when the phones these days retail for $150-250

Take the battery out and gently dab it dry with a towel, but DO NOT use a hair dryer, or anything else for that matter on the phone itself (that will just further damage the circuitry). Just let it slowly dry on it's own for a day or so and then reinsert the battery and keep your fingers crossed.
My 2 year old dropped mine in the toilet once and I was lucky enough that it kept working after dried.
Hope this Helps!

I dropped mine in water - I took the battery out and left it open for a day or so to let it really dry out. It works fine now. Just a tip though - most have a piece of litmus paper in the slot where the battery goes that turns red when wet - so don't take it back to the carrier and try to lie your way out of it when they ask!!

that's a toughy. do you have cell phone insurance? Because I imagine your coffee might be sticky inside there. all you could do is take out the battery and leave it out to dry for a day or two. Must've been a big cup of coffee!

Not to be a pessimist or anything, but I don't think you can just dry a phone out, its probably dead. If it has a SIM card in it the SIM card should be fine though. I had a similar incident a few years back where my phone was in my pants pocket and I put my pants in the wash. Needless to say, my phone drowned and died.

First you shake it and fling it (holding tight to the phone) to get all of the coffee out. You probably shouldn't but I'm tempted to tell you you should slightly rinse it with water if it was sugary. then blow dry that bad boy.

Once one of my colleague dropped his cell phone in water and it did not work. I think mostly you need to buy a new one.

microwave it!
jk um blow drying it works, just be careful don't keep the heat right on it constantly, just do it for a few secs at a time. And don't blame me if it doesn't work after that!
