The problem, as previously suggested, is most likely the fan. Generally you will have at least two fans - 1 in the computer power supply and 1 on top of the CPU. Sometimes these fans go bad and make a noise. Sometimes the noise is loudest when the computer is first turned on and after 30sec-min becomes less noisy. It is rather easy to replace the fan on the CPU - or you can lift off the sticker on the fan and oil it. The fan in the Power Supply is not as easy, as you have to take apart the Power Supply case - still not real difficult, but more work. Other source of noise is your hard disk or CD-ROM. A hard disk making noise can be a serious indicator of it going bad --- so BACK UP YOUR DATA!. If you have a CD in your CDROM drive, then the drive may spin up on powerup and make a spinning noise - but this is normal. You should determine the source of the nosie (fan, hard disk, cd drive, etc) before it becomes a big problem. If it is the hard disk, then back up now as if it fails it is a problem.

It could be your fan but I was also told by the person who built my computer a hard ddrive and or a motherboard will also start making loud noises just before they go out. It could be a number of things.
I do beleive I heard there is software out there that can diagnose this kind of thing, also some computers already have this ability. Read your manuals and so on. Or you can call a computer dealer or repair business and just ask questions. I have numerous places I get my information from and they are up front and tell me everything including how much damage it can and has caused and how long it will be before it is damamged how much it can cost to repair and all that.
try this link and see if this person can help you he is a member of one of my groups called finding each other

Well it all depends on what kind of noise it is, new computers now days have, big cooling fans, which automatically turn on, and makes a lot of noise. in old computers Normally old 56k Modems makes noise. OR last one could be the Prossor it self. wel if u think its coolin fan, u can take it off, would realy harm. an 56k modem too, if u dont need it.lol but u cant take the prosessor out. but u do get new prosessors, which are faster an quiter. my pc makes no noise at all!

Open it up and clean all the dust out of it with a can of compressed air, especially on the fans and CPU. Fans could just be clogged up with dust or dying. Try to pinpoint where the sound is actually coming from. Fans are cheap and easy to replace.
If your Hard Drive is making the noises, back up what you don't want to lose pronto. If your hard drive dies, you will lose everything that you haven't backed up to CD, DVD, or floppy, or flash drive.
Good luck.

some computers have temperature controlled followers that run at greater RPMs while the encircling temperature will boost to right cool your kit. some ability components even have followers that close off while no longer mandatory or seem silent till the room gets warmer. i do no longer think of that dell makes use of this technologies for his or her computers, 2 years in the past or now, so which you ought to have a difficulty. whether that's a many times occurring case fan or your CPU fan then i could clean it with a horse hair brush or Q-assistance and then attempt it back. whether it continues to be noisy, then replace it. The bearings ought to be worn and ought to be inflicting the noise. whether it is your ability furnish fan then you definitely would desire to replace the flexibility furnish as an entire unit after attempting to bathe and attempt it of direction. you ought to open it and attempt to replace the fan, however the flexibility furnish incorporates extensive capacitors that would supply you a unfavorable marvel even while no longer plugged in so do exactly the risk-free ingredient and get a clean one.

There are basically three things that move in a computer on a regular basis--the fan, the CPU fan and the hard drive. It's usually one of the fans. They're pretty cheap and easy to replace, though. The DVD and CD drive might also whirr but you would probably know if it was one of those.

Where is it coming from? If its coming from the back by the power source or fan, it might be a bad baring or you might just need to take a can of air to it. It is from the CD player your CD player is going bad, If its from the hard drive, back up everything NOW and be prepared for a bad crash soon.

Take a phillips screwdriver and carefully unscrew the case side door.
Reach inside and, with both hands, firmly grasp the hamster (it sounds like the poor li'l fella has got his head stuck in his wheel and the noise is his lifeless corpse flopping about)
Replace hamster, case door and continue as normal.
I thank you.....(bows, drunkenly)
