Especially if I failed Spanish in HS both semesters and didn't fair any better in college, but I can recognize a few words, know some basic phrases and can fake my way through a conversation?

Most places, if they're going to hire you based on the fact that you can speak spanish, are going to want you to be fluent or close to fluent. Knowing a 3 year olds vocabulary and faking your way isn't going to be enough when you have to have to help customers solve their problems.

You are probably worse than you think at Speaking Spanish...

Yet, you could write it down, but in reality they will not pay you more unless you use it all the time in that job.

Also they still may not pay you more if you use Spanish constantly at your job, but it is a very low position (receptionist is a good example).

I am a spanish speaker and also failed spanish in HS. If you can speak it then say so.

If I were you I would say I know "Basic Spanish". You never know, one day they might need your Spanish skills.. and you'll be short.
