I believe prostitution should be legal. Not that I believe that it is morally acceptable, but it is not my place, or anyone else's to tell someone what they can and cannot do with their own body. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone.. At the same time, a careless prostitute could spread disease like HIV or any other STD... So I think there should be laws governing it, but it should be legal.

Prosistution does hurt others though. Most prositues are in areas that are run down, crime riden and over run with illegal drugs. I want our government to set standards for us to live by so that our society will be safe and productive.
At one time in my life I would have said that the act of prostitution should be made legal for the same reason you mentioned, but as I have expereinced life and seen what this behavoir does to parts of my community I am all for arresting the individuals who continue to pay and prositute. If we as a society keep saying prostitutuin and similar behaviors should be legal then where will our society end up in 20 - 50 years. Half a centry ago these problems were barely on the radar during a time when our communities honored God, attended church more often and respected teachers, doctors, service persons and each other far more than we do now. Does anyone see a very sad trend here?

Should it be illegal? I say No!Cuase it two people conseting to have sex with each other.
Should the goverment or authorities try to controll it? Once again my answer is No! Becuase if you want to change people actions, you have to get to the root of the problem; which is the people heart.
Matthew 15:11-Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
What comes out of a man, words, actions, what ever reveals what's in a persons heart. Making it illegal not resolve what the person holds on to in there heart. The heart is the root of the problem. It's simalar to cutting off the top of a weed, bu leaving the root in the ground. There's no point in just cutting off the top of the weed or dealing with the syptoms and results of a problem; the weed, the problem need to be pulled out at the root so that it does not return

I find that our goverment does put too many restrictions on us and that is why so many things that are illegal are still taking place. Losinging up at this point isn't going to help either because they people going against the laws are too bitter to change and would use the new fredoms badly. I'm not pro nor anti but I simply agree with many others that it's a bad idea to have so many limitations because people are just pushing to break them... have we all forgoten the drinking age and how it's abused befor and after? I think we are all rather prudent and that must soon change or the whole country will soon be taken down with it!

No, it should be legalized and sanitized through state and federal regulation. Prostitution has been with us for centuries and aggressive attempts to prevent its existence have only driven it into the darkest corners of society. Whether it causes harm or not is a moot point. If causing harm were a criterion for illegality, then cigarettes, alcohol, and the republican party would be illegal.

Of course it should be, and you're on to something. The fact is that thousands languis in jail in the US every day for consensual crimes. They did things that are basically harmless to others, but broke some rediculous moralistic law.
Read- Ain't Nobody's Business if You Do: The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in a Free Society - by Peter McWilliams.
Hmm, I searched for it on Amazon and there are three copies available. Try http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/192976717X/sr=8-7/qid=1154103089/ref=sr_1_7/102-7434167-3360950?ie=UTF8
The author was killed by the State - the US Government. Ironic , yes? Far fetched? No! He contracted AIDS, was using marijuana to ease the pain, and they arrested him for it and jailed him.
Then the as s ho les said they'd release him ONLY if he promised not to smoke again. Jail is so harsh, that he decided to comply. He knew another jail term would kill him. So he didn't smoke, and guess what? Because he wasn't smoking he choked on vomit when nauseated, and died.

Prostitution should not be illegal, not only is it wrong for anyone to tell you what to do with your body, it is wrong that a person cannot enjoy themselves and spend their mone as they see fit. I do believe though it should be monitored and the prostitutes checked on a regular basis for aids, hiv, stds. Hey truck drivers have to have a special license why not prostitutes. Not to mention the fact that how many less sex crimes would there be if the offended had another outlet?

Prostituion, marijuana and gambling should be legalized, regulated and taxed to high heaven. Think about it, prostitution is legal in practically every country in the world unless that country is controlled by a state religion. So, since there is no state religion in the US, why is it illegal here?

Personally I do not think it is immoral as long as there is no force or coercion. Making it legal would have many benefits. It would be nice to have the girls paying taxes instead of collecting welfare. Health checks would make it safer for everybody. It would be harder for predators to oppress the girls.
The main strike against it is mainstream politicians don't dare offend the moral majority.
