Hey doucherider nobody has any choice in the matter, since Harry did that on his own. America already had lost over 100,000 men at Okinawa, and Japan was surrounded could of made the difference of you speaking German right now. OH! most of you Neocons are speaking German and playing Nazi right here with Bush the Dictator. Why do Neocons hate America is the problem America is facing today, and the reason most of the Republicans are being indicted and sued. November's Congress change will have all you KKK's and Nazis panties in a bunch wont it? You call it Religion which is blasphemy, and we call it your out!

You need to do more to elaborate on your question, as it stands, you are right about it being a stupid question. If you are asking about dropping the bomb in today's media climate, or in the media of the 40's? Are you making inferences to dropping a bomb, knowing wht the results would be or not?
When Truman used the bomb, the world was totally different. Truman could have had insane sex parties in the press room, with the White House press corps watching and it wouldn't have ended up in the papers. Now if a President takes a funny colored crap, it's on the front page, and cable "news" is showing pictures of it all day long. Truman was also a very moderate Democrat, much like Clinton. FDR was the first liberal Democrat, as the parties flip floped fiscal agendas when he was elected. Truman was not pleased with some of the things FDR ushered into the Democratic Party.
That all being said....
If we knew then, what we know now, that;
A> The Japanese were going to surrender regardless
B> The Nuclear arms race would become the international focal point that it is since then
Then no.
If it was with what most Americans thought at the time, then yes.
Lastly, do you like to see liberal answers, because they are more often than not, better answers, or are you too caught up in political labeling to see good points when they are made? If a conservative makes a point that is one I can agree with, which happens more in life than on this sounding board, I will agree. How about you?

It is one of the biggest lies that we need to drop Two not just one but Two atom bombs on Japan. We had successfully destroyed 50% of all their major cities. They would have not lasted much longer with all the bombing going on. We dropped those bombs for Two reasons. One... To show everyone in the world that we have them and Two.... To show the world that we had the balls to use them. Whenever a major event like those two atom bombs being dropped or 9/11 or Pearl Harbor takes place. It is never for the reason our government gives us. They can not tell the truth because they would not have our support if they did, and that is what you need to go to war with other country Support.

Nope, im British and Socialist, so chew on that.
Besides, most historians now accept Japan was surrendering when the Bombs were dropped, her Industrial capacity was devastated and the dropping of the bombs was nothing more then a glorified two fingers to the world and anyone who wanted to try it on again.

I fully support it. There was no other way at the time.
You cons know so little about the liberal mainstream. All you hear about are the far left fanatics and then you generalize that to all liberals. Stop listening to the right wing media and open your eyes.

No, they would have preferred to discuss this or simply ignore the situation like Clinton did. Bin Laden could have been captured during the Clinton administration but wasn't, he was definitely a liberal.

Perhaps, perhaps not.
Though hindsight tends to be 20/20, the question of whether that act was necessary or justified remains undecided.
