hello, I am applying for a position within a large insurance company. I have located the emerging zone, market competitive and premium zones. The difference in amounts is about $20,000.00 from lowest to highest. Where do i start?

Start at the top end and negotiate from there.
Who knows, with your experience and their needs, you could be worth the upper range of the salary scale.
You can also justify your reason for expecting a salary in this range by explaining just exactly how you determined it as you have done here.

My motto is never go down in salary from one job to another as I have become accustomed to living at that level. Also I am always looking to improve myself in knowledge and value to the company so that should be worth an increase in salary.

it depends on your experience. If you came right out of school, you are at the low end of the salary. If you have been working in the field for a few years, you go up some more. If you have been doing this forever, you would be at the high end.

it depends what your major was in college
if you are really good at the job..then you should ask for a range in the middle
