Q. After I used a disc supplied by the manufacturer of my computer to correct a problem, I no longer have the Recycle Bin icon on my desktop. I have tried to locate it but have had no success.

A. Anybody whose workday includes gathering large numbers of files that soon need to be zapped - computer column writers, for example - likely would agree that you need a fix for that missing garbage can fast.

Repairing and changing desktop icons can be done by right-clicking on the Windows desktop, picking Properties, then opening the Desktop tab and clicking the button that appears for Customize Desktop.

There you will find the tool that can be used to assign different icons than those picked by Microsoft to identify various elements like files and folders. There are two buttons on that display. Pick the one for "Restore Defaults;" that should fix the problem on its own.

However, it is possible the Recycle icon disappeared on your machine because the icon picture file has become corrupted. So if the Restore Defaults command doesn't fix the situation, select the Change Icon button alongside that Restore button. Scroll through the icon pictures in this menu to find the ones for the Recycle Bin open and Recycled Bin closed. Select them one at a time and then select Change Icon.

Although you can use any of the multitude of images to represent the trash bin, for the sake of sanity, go find and use the actual garbage can picture. This will assign whatever icon you pick to the Recycle Bin and display it on the desktop once you click Apply on the Properties menu where you started.

when you right click on the desktop, go to properties. go to desktop, then at bottom there is a button called 'customize desktop' and make sure the recycle bin is selected.

Try setting the defaults by right clicking on desktop and choosing Desktop and going to Customizing Desktop, afterwards clicking on Restoring defaults and refreshing your desktop.

This is impossible, how did you delete it if it is the deleter.

Anyways, try to get it back by going to "porperties" form the desktop then "destop" then "customize desktop"

Good Luck

When you delete files hold down "shift" while deleting the file . Then you do not have to use the bin.
