There are plenty. I know an amazing drag king (named Billy Jean, look for him on Myspace from Athens, GA) who does a lot of Michael Jackson. I've seen Elvis, and I've seen Eminem. I've seen everything from lounge singers to genderf*ck to punk to rap. Basically anything can be made into an act. If you search for drag kings on Google you'll find lots of websites for various troupes, and you can look through pictures to get a feel for different ways of doing it.
One consideration your friend will want to take into account is where/with whom he will be performing. Will he perform solo, or with a troupe? Will he perform in bars, or in a more family friendly venue? He should tailor his performance to his audience, and if he is performing with a troupe, make sure that the persona/genre of music he chooses to focus on is not something that another king already has dibs on.
Oh, and I would suggest getting a good ace (definition: a person, usually female, who helps the king with makeup, costume decisions, transportation, and anything else they may need. "ace" is short for "drag ace," playing on the idea of cards, since the king is also a playing card). Although if you are asking this question for him, you may be his ace! I'm an ace myself, so contact me if you want to get in contact with other kings. I know plenty of them. And if you're in GA, let me know and I'll try to come to a performance some time!

What exactly are you looking for? Like, songs to do? Coming up with those is half the fun! When I started drag, I was encouraged to do some searching and find "her" (half-jokingly, but still). Angel's always the same persona, same personality, no matter what song she's doing. BUT, her personality does have some influence on her song selection. So I guess I'd say find "him" and think about what he'd enjoy performing to and what would best carry that personality across. More serious artistic, or really funny, or boyband dancer-y; what type of act is also a good place to start.
Also: if possible, find yourself a good drag daddy. Tips n tricks and help and advice abound. ;) Hope this is somewhat helpful; good luck!

Elvis is always a classic. I also saw a really awesome king show a couple weeks ago where a king dressed as George Michael was doing a whole routine to "Freedom" and feeling up another king dressed as a gay male. The same show also had an awesome Billy Idol doing "White Wedding".

I dont know exactly what you mean by persona. But I know here we have but one regular king at the bar and He does everything. Hunter does Prince in like this purple suit and sings purple rain, always gets a ton of tips. He also does Pour some sugar on me and wears ripped jeans and a cut off t-shirt with a flag on it. Then he does an Usher Mix with black leather pants and a silver fitted shirt (always bound tightly in that shirt) and the girls go crazy over that one.
Hope that helps, didnt know if you were looking for acts or names as a king.
Peace
