because they are idiots.
All religions to a point state love your fellow being.
Most of these people are afraid of change and need something to blame it on.
I don't think these religious freaks know one iota about God.

People are scared of things that seem different. Homosexuality has been a taboo in the West for several centuries (since the mid 1300s), and thus the rise in public discussin of the topic over the past few decades is still new and frightening to many people.
The Bible is being used as a pretext for condemning homosexuality. There are precisely three verses in the Bible that condemn men sleeping with men--one in Leviticus, one in Deuteronomy, and one in Romans (lesbianism is never mentioned, and was widely accepted in Old Testament times for all the Hebrew tribes except the Levites). The old testament mentions are on the same page as condemnation of eating shellfish--so don't eat shrimp if you're a homophobe! The Romans verse was authored by Paul, who had a lot of distorted views about sex--he thought that even within marriage, sex was a necessary evil, and that women were inherently more sinful than men. Kinda misguided for an apostle.
There is a lot of beauty and wisdom in the Bible. Don't knock it all just because a few scared bigots choose to misinterpret it.

Spitting on the Bible puts you on the same footing as homophobics: the both of you are showing a great deal of ignorance, although your take seems to be more enligthened. Being this the case, then there's a greater deal of responsibility on your side to keep the debate on a certain level. Poor Luke and Matthew may be just as suprised and pissed off as you are. They didn't have that issue at hand when they get down to write their stuff, to begin with.

The Bible is not the only source that bashes gays. At times it seems that gays bash themselves. You say you are a lesbian, well then leave it at that. Don't obsess over the opinions of others. It's a waste of time.
I, for one don't worry or give any thought about someone's sexual orientation. That's none of my business. However, when you openly divulge you sexual preferences, you should be prepared for any and all kinds of reactions. What two consenting adults do in private should remain private.

Because most folks use the Bible as a crutch to justify hatred, bigotry, and intolerance. I know plenty of Christians who love people for who they are and don't impose their faith on others. There's a difference between the teachings of Christ and Christianity. Let's face it, if people lived like Jesus did, the so-called Christians would say that he's a troublemaker and have him killed! Let's be real about it. I call those folks "modern day Pharisees(hope I spelled that right)". If people live and let live, we wouldn't have all the mess that's going on right now.

Not only the bible, the cultural background, the way they were brought up, their sexual orientation, their sense of propriety. Oh, and medical reasons.
Be happy, you live in an era where you can say these things without reservation, and have laws to protect you. Forty years ago this was unheard of.
Why pick a fight or try to justify yourself to people who do not understand you?
Live and let live.

It is sad...I am a very happily married straight man that believes that homosexuality is actually quite "normal."
Look at history!!! There has been gay people since before the Romans!!!
The middle east and Greece was loaded with gay people...it was actually more normal to be gay than straight...the only time men slept with women was to procreate...that was it...
This homosexuality thing is not new people!!!
Some dude wrote in the bible that it was a sin because HE was tired of it and wanted to scare people into being straight...that's all
GET OVER IT PEOPLE!!! WHO REALLY CARES ANYWAY!!!
It is none of your business what people do in their bedrooms!!! They aren't knocking on your door checkin' to see what you are doing in there, so leave THEM alone and let them be happy
an end note: I have seen more happy gay couples in my life than happy straight couples...that should be enough for you right there...maybe they are simply jealous!!!

Most people have a problem with homosexuality from a moral point of view. Morality is only defined in religion. Ethics is the cheap substitute the rest of the world uses.
If you want to live an immoral life, that's your call. Just don't shove it in my face as they do here in California.

Oh you are forgetting that people also use bats, tire irons, guns, ropes, fists, glares, not nice words and discriminatory laws against homosexuals. I'd rather get a bible chucked at me, personally.
they worry about it because their views require everyone else to be just like them. It's kind of like believing in the tooth fairy or Santa. You can't just do it alone or you are crazy, but if everyone agrees they exist and here's how you have to behave to please them, then they are real. Mass ignorance is bliss.

You need to repent of the sin of [female] homosexuality, which is found in the first Book of Romans. The reason that the Bible is used/quoted is that it is God's love letter to mankind [including you, of course] and is the authority for our abborence of this horrible crime against Jesus and man. Your hatred for God and His people is palpable, and you are in great [spiritual] danger! You can never know true love until you know the God of love-as someone once put it:
No God, No Peace; Know God, Know Peace
(Jesus Christ is God, and he says that this sin is an especially abominable thing to Him.) The universal verse of command is
Acts 17:30.
