The reason most people call it "cap" music instead of rap is because todays rappers have no talent. What happened to the rappers who actually cared about there music? What happened to the rappers who actually had talent, BIG pappa, Tupac, Aziatic, Afu Ra, Wu-Tang, even the Beastie Boys? Today all the rappers rhyme about is being in the clubs and about the street life that none of them ever had, for instance, LiL John.....Lil john was never in the struggle, he was never a hustler, in fact he was the DJ at an Atlanta night club then moved up to the executive vice president of So So Def Records...He is even credited with "bringing the southern style of rap to the masses" by VH1....Did they forget about Outkast? Young Bloodz? Nappy Roots? Why is it that the only modern rappers with talent, Atmosphere, Jedi Mind, Imortal Technique, are never played on the radio?

So my question is Where did all the TALENT go?

What happen!!!! I tell you what happen. Rappers these days just do it to get some quick cash but not for the love of the cluture. Plus most of them didn't really come from the streets or go through what they saying. They just acting hard to get the attention.(for example: Back in the 90's Diddy try to act hard during the east vs. west coast beef but he grew up in a middle class/rich class neighborhood and he went to a rich nehiborhood.

i think you need to tell the difference between rap music with talent and rap music with meaning. nobody makes rap music with meaning anymore, which i agree is really a shame. most rap music does talk about pimpin hoes and 25 inch rims and how many carats are on their grill, but see thats okay. honestly theres nothing wrong with that. If someone doesnt like that, they dont have to listen to it. I believe you are confusing that aspect of the music with talent. Rappers nowadays do have talent. There is a certain expertise that you have to have to be a rapper; you have to have rhythm, certain expertise on the lifestyle, you have to know what people want to hear, you have to create good catchy beats, and most of all , you have to be original. You cant jock anybodys style or you wont get big in the business. There are so many trying to be rappers but only a handful, maybe less that 1 percent actually make it big.

Okay the rappers like Lil John, Yung Joc and what not have talent, just don't have any truth behind it. I understand what you mean by they only rap about b/s, but there are still some out there that speak the truth. How do you know how these rappers grew up and how they had to make ends meet? Are you them no? I like the old school "rap" and todays rap too.

Here is the problem...THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. It takes the art out of the form, and makes it a business. The same thing happens in sports. You start hearing about people talking about the "whatever" business. Not about the love...the culture etc. If there's money in it you'll hear it see it.
There are still MC's out there rippin it...De La Soul, The Roots, Redman, P.E., Common, etc...that still rhyme, and innovate, but when everyone is out buying 50 cent...the industry tells all the artists to "be like 50". No more creativity...no more music for the love of performing, it becomes BS.
If you find a group you like...support them with your buying power. That is the way to bring back real hip-hop.

♥ Theres still talented rappers around... but I have to agree with you about the Lil J comments...I wouldnt give him credit as a rapper maybe for making beats but thats it... I like The Game personally. Theres still a lot of heart in rap.... mostly by underground artists and people freestyling on the streets.... hopefully one day most of them will be discovered and change rap like that original rappers did ♥

I love rap from back in the day because they were rapping about something. Now days it's about how many times they shot, got shot at, and how many people they've shot. Plus it's has gotten too degrading towards women. Bring back the real rap. That's true not all rappers today are like that, it's just the majority of them.

its the whole subculture of hiphop.. be flashy, be rich, be everything these rappers weren't before they made it big.

Everyone talks about the same stuff these days because it sells... its no longer about saying what you feel, or writing a rhyme from the heart (Nas was a great one at doing that). Its about getting that Chedda, that CREAM, dolla dolla billz yall.

and its sad, when big and 2pac died, rap had a massive heart attack, and no one could revive it... not 50 cent WHO IS THE BIGGEST SELL OUT, POP-MUSIC MAKING SOB of them all! not eminem, cause after we got used to his 'shock rap", he started doin the same ****.

To get GOOD hiphop these days ,you need to look to the underground scene, not mainstream.

Biggest KILLERS of rap:
Lil Jon
East Side Boyz
Paul Wall
Nelly
50 Cent
Puff ( yes, he is commercialized and all about $$)

best for keeping rap alive:
Wu members (except Method man) RZA, GZA, ghostface, etc
Beasties are STILL at it... good for them
Nas
Outkast
nappy roots

What it needs is OLD SCHOOL ICE CUBE to come back and make some new hits about REAL stuff... you know what I mean? we need to see a revival of OLD rappers getting back into it... even RUN and DMC, Cube, etc...

You make a good point.

But, like most forms of pupular music, TALENT takes a back-seat to commercialization and making a profit....

That's why Rap is saturated with acts like Lil Jon, Black Eyed Peas, and all those "one-hit-wonder" rappers.

Where's Rakim?

you should check out some battleaxe records... swollen member, moka only, sweatshop union. real sweet if you like rhymesayers like atmosphere. josh martinez is another really good too you should check out. i agree with you, the **** on the radio sucks, but you should know that the majority of anything on the radio sucks. they arent on the radio because they are underground and dont want to have to start playing shows for thousands of people. thats what they are against.
