If you are thinking of beaches that stretch for miles, forget it. From downtown Boston you will see large factories and buildings blocking whatever view you might have of the ocean. You would have to go a bit north to Revere (close to airport) for beach.
Seeing the ocean is not what you visit Boston for.

The city of Boston is near the ocean. Hoe close depends on where you are staying. Any location in the city will put you fairly close.

Boston is ON the ocean. . . .everywhere around Boston there is waterfront, and if you travel about 30 minutes away from the city you're at some great beaches.

Beantown is on the Atlantic. It is absolutely gorgeous.
Take in a Sox game if you want to know what makes
it tick- the people! Hit Quincy Market and have fun.
Go shopping on Newbury Street. Watch the sailboats
on the Charles.

Yes it is. You have to drive a little far maybe to get to some really nicer beaches but there are some in the city as well.
