Now before you all say that I am racist you must know that (I AM A WHITE MAN MYSELF) And I have many friends from different cultures, backgrounds and different races. But one thing I have notice is that even though I have many friends of different races, I always feel like I don't belong. For Example: once I was walking through a predominately black and mexican community, and the people there were looking and treating me like I was not welcome. I know my ancestors did horrible things to people of color, but are the white race now being punished for the sins of their forefathers. Because honestly, I get the feeling that because I am white people of color, do not like me because of my fore fathers.

UNFORTUNATELY, all people have a pre-convceived notion about other races. Some "minority" races (and i hate that word) may feel that you automatically don't like them, because of past confrontations they may have had. I treat everyone equally. You do not judge a person by the color of their skin; you judge them BY THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER!!! there are good and bad in all races!!!

It might not have been that they don't like you per se, their first thought was probably "what is he doing here?" Not as if it's a crime or anything, but they probably don't see much of your kind in their community. Trust me, as a black woman, I can tell you that when I'm in the "hoity-toity" (affluent) side of town, I get the SAME stares and attitude from a lot of white people. Some, NOT all.

I know where you're coming from - that's just the wretched society we live in. We like to keep our borders and fences, and don't like the balance being thrown off by the unexpected.

To answer your question, I think most white people are okay, and they're not racist, contrary to what some people might think about that. I have dated many a white man in my day, and I know that the cultural "wiring", so to speak, in the mindsets and perspectives is very different.

The colored races do not like whites because not only of what the forefathers did then but what they continue to do now. The general notion is that they like to put up an air of superiority.

As an Asian from this colored race, I don't have anything against the whites nor do I perceive them to be arrogant because I've met a few of them here as tourists and I personally find the whites to be very warm and friendly.

Well, I'm half white and half black so when people see me they don't know what i am . . . they guess, so i know what you're talking about (b/c some guess i'm white).
I think there is still a lot of racisim in the world today (coming from all sides). just b/c people don't own other people in america now doesn't mean that people still aren't acting like fools. those people giving you nasty looks is an example. i live in a "white community" and have people making racist jokes around me b/c they don't know that i'm 50% black and I have people telling me that my parent's marriage is wrong.
there are, of course, people of all races that realize that this is stupid. so just be nice to and kinda ignore those that are ignorant enough to hold on to that hatred. They aren't worth your time.

I get what you are saying. Think about it this way though, the looks you get would be the same ones "people of color" get when they go thru a white area. Some people are just close minded, and will never change. Its sad really. As a white woman who dates outside her race I know exactly how you feel. Remember this, we are all the same when you turn off the light switch...

The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles.
South Africans hate the Yugoslavs
The Yugoslavs hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much

A quote from a wonderful song recorded by the Kingson Trio in 1960. Things have not changed.

When people stare at you, you don't know that they are thinking that you don't belong there because you can't know what other people think unless they tell you. When I walk around in largely ethnic areas people are usually just surprised that I'm there, that I know anything about their culture, their food, their style of dress and are grateful that I'm interested. I haven't experienced what you have evidently. Of course, with a Black and Mexican community is still victimized by people who look just like you. It's up to you to show people that you are different.

My ancestors didn't do anything to anyone. They struggled to survive, same as anyone else. Most white people's ancestors didn't own slaves or abuse Indians or anything else. Most of our ancestors weren't rich. Never in human history was any group of descendants or citizens held responsible for the legal but immoral actions of the few in power. It is absurd. War trials? Slave reparations? What planet are we on? Every single country and ethnicity in human history has been on the right and wrong side of crime, war, slavery, you name it. The simple fact is that what is going on right now is flat out racism against white people. Not inherited guilt. Not pay back. It is racism. You are only guilty of your own actions. And clearly, you are not guilty. So say it like it is.

I think it might be they just don't trust you. I am white and my boyfrined is black so we talk a lot on this. Black people are always going to be a little leary of white people, especially white men. Usually, when a white man walks through their neighborhood, he is the police. Smile, say what's up. Let everyone know that you are different.
