Should we take the conservative approach, which I admit comes at a great price, and continue to fight terrorism, or should we take the liberal approach and say, "I only care about my own freedoms. It is not my country and not my problem."?

Arkiemom,
Please do not tell me we have no interest. Myself and many of my friends helped fight a war in Somalia which unfortunately was not popular enough to make the news. Many of them did not make if home while fighting for something greater than yourself.

Well, we sort of cared and tried to do something under the Clinton Administration. See Black Hawk Down for the results.
We still care, we don't want the Taliban in charge of anything. It is only a matter of time before we go back, and I know a lot of people that will cheer.

This is untrue. The UIC (Union of Islamic Courts) have nothing in common with the Taliban. I was in Somalia few months ago & have first hand witnessed the situation down there. It is ridiculous accusations by the Interim government who is at a power struggle with the UIC. These days the word "terrorist" & "taliban" are missused & abused.
Somalis are different from Afghans. They are nomadic people who have no interest in what is going on with the outside world.
These courts were set up by residents of the capital Mogadishu who were fed up with lawlessness & anarchy and wanted some sort of order. So, Islam being their native religion, they have opted for Shari'ah courts. These courts function as police and have provided much relief to the local residents.
Over the past few weeks, the union of courts have removed banditry road blocks, arrested many looters, rapists & child molesters. They have also re-opened Mogadishu airport which had been closed for over a decade. They have begun a cleaning campaign, reconstruction projects & have also re-opened the main port.
The courts are very local & their agenda does not reach world politics. Recently they have defeated warlords which the UN had accused of commiting mass murders & human rights violations, including A. Qeybdid who was responsible for the deaths of 19 U.S. soldiers in 1993.
Do not believe everything you read or hear, the defeated warlords are part of the interim government & are spinners of propaganda. These men have kept the country hostage & are responsible for war crimes. The president of the interim government A. Yusuf is wanted by the British superior court for murder charges. Most of them are cold blooded killers, hiding behind secularism.
Don't let the word Islam frighten you, it has become hijacked by murderers & killers who have no regard for human life.

It is about our freedoms. Remember the Patriot Act. Though I support it for now. There must remain a time limit on it. Yes it is a concern. For now we have our hands full. Though we may have to do a tactical air strike or two in Somolia unfortunately as Israel must do often at present in Lebonon. Make no mistake that we are in World War III. The Lord weeps I'm sure.

Haven't you figured it out by now? The United States has absolutely no interest in helping any country that does not have something we want or that does not have large financial investments in this country. If you don't have oil or nuclear weapons - you are basically screwed!

Don't be silly; there is no oil in Somalia. We only are interested in someplace where our President and his minions can exploit the resources for their own benefit. I’m telling you, some of these questions???

That's why we have to get out of Iraq and go after terrorists all over the world. The Israelis are the only ones with any guts to go after these murderers.
