first off...I AM NOT RACIST...I am asking this as politely as I know how...anyway,every TV show or even person I know (and that's alot) think because they are black they can sing or rap...why oh why is this?
can you imagine if white or hispanics or asians did this?
black comedians would be all over it,making fun of the other races...

there is talent and UNTALENT in every culture...for those asking...

in fact I sing pretty ugly...
but in the same token,NOT ALL black people can sing...yea,luther kicks a.s.s and
marvin gaye...but so did karen carpenter..
but I don't see every white/chinese/mexican out there trying to sing...again,there's talent in every race,not one in particular...

Have you ever been to a Karaoke bar? I think that most people think they can sing (especially after a few beers), but in reality, few people sound good (that's why music stars get paid lots). I see a lot of Caucasian girls that think they sound like Britany Spears...it's funny to watch! Everyone thinks that they sound awesome, irregardless of race.

You may not, in general, be racist, but that was most certainly a racist question, and you, therefore, have become racist in this aspect.
In answer to your question though, it tends to be a cultural trait -- music is a very large part of African tradition, and so I'm sure that it carries through into America as well. I believe it also depends upon the social class of the person, though -- can you imagine an upper class citizen, of any race, going for such a drastic change in lifestyle? I think it all depends on how a person is brought up -- someone of a less African-based background (meaning, less emphasis or ties to African culture) will probably have less of an inclination to have a tie to music and rhythm.
But these are all generalizations, and there are an enormous amount of exceptions to anything I just said! There are an enormous amount of exceptions to what you said as well.
I don't think there's a truly valid answer to your question.

The majority of African Americans don't think they can sing. There are some of us who work everyday and most of us who can sing have other jobs. I guess you haven't noticed many rappers/singers that have many other projects but if us African Americans weren't singing and dancing or rapping what would MOST of everyone else have to look at on tv? Who could you ridicule then? Half of the people who can sing or rap never make to be Num. 1 on the billboards, but I credit anyone who can put there own album out and sell it before becoming famous. It takes fans to actually make up a fan base and if you've got them, chances are, the person has talent. And black commedians make fun of what's real. Nothing wrong with us laughing, we've been laughed at and ridiculed before...it hurt, but we dealt with it. Coming to think of it, it doesn't take someone getting on stage to ridicule us or anyone. Give props where they are due.

I almost am dumbfounded by tis question.LOL....Im feeling a bit of jealousy in this question. i need alil more history on why you ask this? nwo i ask some questions like this but, thsi has got me ..talk about generalization...you got me. Because African Americans DO SING really GREAT! They have immense TALENT. Just look at BEYONCE KNOWLES. She is beautiful and she sings GREAT! You sound Jealous...be careful...i can see that green eyed monster peeking through.....

I don't think they think they can. They just do it. It's more cultural than racist. But more blacks are associated to that culture.
