Read the book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

You just have to understand the two genders are different...and you have to treat each as such.

Men go in their cave when they are forced to deal with stress or problems. Women want to gab about it right away.

The best compromise you can come up with is to let the guy go to his cave for a limited time...say a day...and after that he will talk to you. That is fair.

Cindy:
Am not sure exactly what you mean. I can tell you this. Men SEEM to be masculine, manly , not hurt by anything, able to "take it". But, when it comes to women in their lives, they are easily hurt, vulnerable, and fragile. Believe it or not that's pretty much the case. So, if he even SMELLS the idea that his SO rejects overtures, thinks he's weak when he opens up, or thinks he's wrong, or hints at belittling him, he'll clam up or "shut down". That's the opposite of what you all have been led to believe. Guys are supposed to be tough and able to take it. They aren't. I'm here to tell you that it's true for me and for guys I know and have talked about it. He's like you, he wants to be heard, wants sympathy, wants his bruised ego caressed and needs TLC when he's vulnerable.
Having said all that, there may be other reasons a guy shuts down. I'd be interested in what you think.

Men over time, tend to get comfortable. They are a creature of habit. Once a habit is formed why change it. Women, in my opinion, want an evolving relationship. They want the romance, but they also want it re-kindled once in a while. Men are great during the romancing stage, they are planning the dinners, the flowers, the "I love you" notes/sayings. Then over time, they think its a given and stop doing that. Men dont need to hear that all the time, then sense well she is with me, sure she loves me.

Men do that when their gf get too close for comfort or go too fast and they are not prepared for it.

They freak out specially after "I love you" talk, or hints about engagement, marriage, children or if you talk about wanting to move in, or wanting to meet his parents.

If you go too fast, he will put the breaks on you and back off.

Good luck
