sure - neither side is innocent. however -- imagine living in a neighborhood where all of your neighbors either spoke out publically saying they wanted to exterminate you and your family from the earth or they secretly hated you. Perhaps Israel has used too much force in comparison to this particular event (i.e. kidnapping of the soldiers by Hezbollah) but it must show the rest of the Arab Middle East that it will not put up with their anti-Israeli antics. I am not sure Israel has a choice but to stand strong and show the worls that Israel will simply not allow terrorist organizations onto their soil and will not tolerate the bully mentality of its neighbors. Have you been to Israel? The people there are extraordinarily tolerant of other cultures, religions and people. It is the Muslim world that needs to get a clue and learn to accept people's differences.

Israel has indeed helped to fuel an anti-western anti-Zionist backlash in the middle east. The current conditions in Palestine are only the tip of the ice-berg.
1/3 children lives below the poverty line.
unemployment is around 50%.
water is strictly controlled by the Israelis and is in extremely short supply.
over a thousand children die a week of preventable illness
travel between Israel and Palestine is virtually impossible causing great harm to the Palestinian economy.
We are talking about a suffering people, who have been subject to great atrocity, such as the bulldozing of pensioners homes while people were still alive inside the building, the bombing of schools, the indiscriminate killing of children for throwing stones at tanks. The Israelis have been disproportionate in each of there responses to attack, accordingly it's estimated that over a million Palestinians have lost there lives due to conflict since the 1940's compared to just 20,000 Israelis.
Israel is a source of perpetual antagonism towards their Muslim neigh boors, it is sad that even at the highest levels of government, both in the Israeli government and PLO / Hamas, there is extreme personal/racial prejudice and hatred.
One cant however condone the martyrdom and fanaticism of Islamic nationalists, Israel does have the right to exist and to defend itself, but they have made their own bed so to speak.

"Israel", or Zionist Israel have been the aggressor, since they (unilaterally) decided to expand their territory, since the 1940s. They have tortured, killed and otherwise harrassed and terrorized the Arab Palestinians, and when the APs strike back, they are viewed as terrorists.
The only way to stop the wars there, is to put a lid on Zionist Israel--they are the cause of the problem; then, the others would have no motive for violence against the Zionists.
Because the U.S. supports Zionist Israel--partly due to the large number of Zionists in Washington, D.C.--they are actually supporting terrorism...

Excuse-moi but the ones who said that Israel is right are flat out wrong.Since 1948 Israel took over Palestine the ORIGINAL tiny country that was there, and that is just flat out inhuman.Imagine you Americans or people from other countries that your country just vanishes away...and that monster leaves you without an identity...takes away the place that is truly called your home...And above all that Israel (over the years)made wars with other countries, including Lebanon(which is Israel's victim right now)Anyways,Israel took men from Lebanon and put them in jail.Hundreds of men.And just like maximum 3 weeks ago,Lebanon managed to get two and wanted to trade with Israel, but Israel said that it was a rude offer(saving hundreds of men is rude?)So Israel started the war and now Israel is killing babies, kids, children, women, girls, boys, men, old people, people with special needs, all the people.I mean just watch the news and watch the horrors of Israel in Lebanon.U know all Israel people are originally not from Israel, they just left their first country to live in this inhuman development. And that's not the whole story of the horrors of Israel.

Screw em all. Why do we care? Why should our government care is the better question. Most of the answers (like from leogirl and jasonz) are nonsensical and based probably a very limited resource of knowledge.
no one knows the real history. no one knows why we pander to israel when they have broken more and more UN Resolutions over the past twenty years.
No one does research. That is why Americans are laughed at. And why I laugh at most Americans myself, then weep when I remember I am of the same stock. Rise above it and grown.

You mean like trying to live in peace on Christian holy grounds surrounded by radical muslims that feel the need to blow up all JEWS? You mean like Israel pulling out of SO CALLED occupied territories and giving land back to Lebanon & the Palestinians at their request and the international community's request to establish peace?
Yea, Israel hasn't done anything requested to live in peace with her neighbors. It is time for Israel to crush the rebellions into submission and ensure they won't come back.

Maybe you should look at a map. Israel is tiny. Their only hope is primary aggression. Insensitive? What would you do? Maybe you should contact their prime minister and give him some advise. I'm sure he'd appreciate that.

Why does most of the world expect Israel to be threatened, terrorized, have land taken away, have it's people persecuted, and then sit back and do nothing about it. How is this Israel's fault. I think it's about time they do something.

Israel has never attacked another country first. Every war they have been involved in, they were attacked first. Israel has abided by all agreements they have signed. Hamas, and Hezbollah have never abided by a single agreement, and consistently state that their goal is the elimination of Israel.
Now who has been bloodthirsty?
