First of all, a tsunami from an earthquake in California would travel outwards. (The tsunami in Japan was from an earthquake in the ocean off Japan, not from an earthquake in Japan.) But let's say there was an earthquake off California that caused a tsunami heading for the California coast. Tsunamis are like very large waves. They hit low-lying areas and roll inland, or move up river valleys. Then they recede, and multi-wave tsunamis recede and then advance again. No tsunami wave has ever been 200 feet tall, so you would not be at risk if you are not in a river valley that might allow a tsunami to get pushed way inland. I know Santa Barbara, and I would guess that is not a big problem there (unlike Sacramento, which is at a very low altitude and in a river valley that is basically flat and would allow a wave to get way inland). I live high enough east of Sacramento to be safe from any tsunami. I would think your situation would be safe also.

it depends on the speed of the wave and the height.
say a ten foot wave going at 60 knots will reach about 600 feet inland also depends on what water level the land that gets hit. is it above sea level or not.

Depends on the size of the tsunami.

A lot depends on the strength of the wave and the configuration of the land.

Conceivable, it could wash over an entire island.

it would probably depend on a lot of factors...the landscape, the strenght of the wave, etc
