Americans stress to their kids over and over not to use drugs, but it's funny how these parents would say that while their addicted to 10 different prescripion drugs for depression, hypertension, and what have you. Drug addiction and dependance is not just through illegal ones, but legal ones too. We are a nation of junkies how ever way you look at it. Just look at our commercials, every other one is about a new drug to treat a "depression" and other things that can be treated with out a drug. Of course pharmacutical companies need money and we are willing to give it to them once we find our addiction. Do you really need aspirin for a minor headache? Drinking plenty of water would go a long way. Stop being a nation of hypocrits, stressing the dangers and addictions of illegal drugs while most our population is dependant on legal ones. What do you think?

According to several writers, a spokesman for the drug companies here in our wonderful US actually once said that by 2020, they intended that 98% of all people in the United States would be taking at least 3 prescriptions daily. We don't need illegal drugs. We'll all be hooked on "legal" but expensive drugs soon anyway

People dig drugs.. always have, always will. It is just a shame that illegal drugs are not available safely in the same way that other seriously addictive prescription ones are. It would stop an awful lot of crime & prevent some otherwise decent people from ending up with criminal records. Not all illegal drug users are bad people. They are doctors, lawyers, mothers, teachers etc.
The price of illegal drugs eventually creates a string of life problems causing addicts to do things they normally wouldn't do.
Legal drugs don't necessarily mean they are any less damaging than illegal drugs. ALL drugs have their problems but if you can lose the criminal aspect then that's one less part of the problem. Imagine how many people would be in prison if alcohol was a crime & $20 a glass?

Did you wipe yourself after you wrote this!?!?!?

What are you insinuating by using quotes around the word "depression"? Are you a clinical psychiatrist? Do you know without a doubt that depression can be treated without drugs?

No, you don't.

Depression is a real and debilitating illness. Talking about it with a shrink or "praying" doesn't even put a dent in it. It's as if 10 foot waves of sadness are inundating you without reason. One does not need to be going through any kind of personal crisis or period of extreme stress to succumb to depression, no more than one needs to be going through such things to succumb to any other disease.

I used to think that people with depression should just "snap out of it" and get on with life. I found out the hard way that nothing could be further from the truth.

Look, I understand what you're trying to say about drugs and I agree to a certain point, but you've made a HUGE error in grouping anti-depressants with things like pain-killers, or other dubious pharmacuticals.

Take the time to learn about a subject before you spew such nonsense.

When they come up with a pill to make people take responsibility for themselves, things might change. In the meantime, parents need to set examples that teach their children to be responsible. Adults need to stop pointing their fingers and blaming anything and everything else for their own lack of self control. Until this happens, drugs, both legal and illegal, will prevail. Sad, isn't it, when the simple alternative is to grow up and take charge.

I think some people are addicted to prescription drugs. But I think you what you are missing is that some people need medication. Not everything can be treated without it. I take Excedrin for a headache, it is hardly a minor headache, I get migraines. I take much stronger medicine for it when it is needed. How can you possibly judge people you don't know?

The difference is that prescription drugs are often times needed, but illegal ones, such as narcotics and hallucinegens are wanted. That is what makes a person a junkie, when You dont NEED something but you want it to make you feel a certain way.

you are definatley right i agree with you.
BEcause the pharma companies are just looking for money. I mean they wouldn't really give you something that worked on your illness because if they gave out things that cured you, then few people would be sick and then where would that put doctors?

They would be out of their jobs and what bot.
The only way is to advertise these drugs as cures or preventions and its not right you know....
there are some other natural cures out there obviously they are illegal in the US or they are not patented by the FDA. anyways
thats why wen people frm the east come and start living te western lifestyle, they suddenly start being sick more they start getting fat. and wat not.

They are available. They are tempting and they are the cure that doctors prescribe more often than not. It's a problem.
