Legally, the security deposit is insurance that you will not leave the rented property without paying the last month's rent. It can be used to cover the costs of repairs after you have vacated. However, legally, the landlord must provide you with an itemized billing of what repairs were made.

The security deposit should be held, by the landlord, in an escrow savings account and not intermingled with any other funds. You should be credited with any interested earned by this savings account.

Request from your landlord an itemized billing for the damages she claims you incurred. By the way, repainting the apartment is not considered repair of damages. That comes under normal wear and tear.
