I think the ages range greatly, I have know of some girls getting theirs as young as 11 and others as late at 15, which is great if you ask me, when you get it you will know what I mean, it is so ANNOYING. Tell your friend not to worry about it and just let nature do its work, now if she is like 16 or older then start worrying I would think. About "losing cherry" that is something you might want to ask your mother, you are still to young to know anyways, but it does not have anything to do with menstruation.

My sister was 16 and I was 15 before we started having periods. Some girls just start later than others. If a girl hasn't had a period by the time she is 16 it is a good idea to go to the doctor to make sure every thing is OK.
Strangely enough, some female athletes like gymnasts and some girls with anorexia do not get periods or have irregular periods. These girls should also see a doctor to make sure they are OK.
"Losing cherry" is a euphemism (slang) for losing your virginity because that causes the hymen to break and some bleeding to occur.

My daughter, who's now 15, didn't get her period 'til she was 12. It's ok; everybody is on her own "timetable." Some girls can start as late as 15 or 16. Some start really early, like 8 or 9. I read it's due to the improvement in nutrition and just all-around better opportunities to stay healthy than women had in the past.
"Losing cherry" is a term used for losing your virginity.
Not sure I've helped much, but hope so!

It varies from female to female. If you or your friend are concerned, the best course of action is to seek a doctor's advice, one who is familiar with your medical history. Certain things can prevent you from starting your period, though. If you're very athletic or have a high metabolism, your body may not have enough fat to store estrogen. This may mean you won't start your period. Quite frankly, starting your period at 13 or 14 isn't abnormal either. And losing or popping your cherry is an expression for losing your virginity.

Some women don't get their period until they are 19.
'Losing your cherry' means you 'lost' your virginity. However, as many people view intercourse as the only 'true' type of sex, the phrase only applies to, you guessed it, intercourse!
The phrase is based around a rather misogynistic idea that a hymen is some sort of freshness seal that is removed when a woman has intercourse.
You do not actually lose your hymen, it stretches. Granted, it stretches when you run. Or walk. Or ride a bike, even!
