Hi There, I am 23 years old and got my navel pierced about 2 weeks ago at a profeesional piercing place, I have been cleaning it daily. In the shower with Band-aid foaming wound cleaner(or something like that). Then after work I do a sea salt soak for 10 minutes and another one usually before I got to bed. I have made sure to wear loose fitting close so I don't irrate it, and never touch it with dirty hands. Right now it is very tender and red inside an around the navel. The skin inside and around the navel is dry & peeling. Is this an allergic reaction to the cleaner or maybe the barbell??? I'm not sure. My Piercing has a light yellowy discharge. Am I alone on this one?? Does anyone have any suggestions???

Try changing to DIAL antibacterial soap.

the sea salt soak is GREAT i'm glad to know someone promotes it. um make sure your mixture is correct though. 1 tablespoon for 1 ounce of water. make sure the water is as HOT as you can stand it with out burning youself.

the light yellow discharge is normal and in some cases will always do it.

if the problems persist see a doctor.

youre fine! dont worry...the peeling and discharge are just part of your body's healing process. try using satin soap...its relatively cheap and its meant for body piercings because its an anti-microbial...that means it will prevent infection. also, you may be putting too much salt in your salt soaks.

the navel is one of the areas that takes the longest to fully heal mainly because of all the movement that occurs in that area.

if after 6 months (yes...months) you are still having irritation, then go see a doctor or the place where you got peirced.

Both of mine did that too. I think some people's bodies just have a hard time healing the piercing. It took my navel almost a year too heal and my inverted navel about 6 months. You might even be cleaning it too often. That can irritate it too.

Naval piercings take a very long time to heal. It is a VERY deep puncture; therefore, it will be sore for quite sometime. I think you are soaking a bit too much tho, once a day is sufficient. Everything you are experiencing sounds pretty normal tho.....mine had the discharge too......

no matter what your piercing is going to get red and infected. your body sees it as a forgin object and is going to try to push it out. as long as you clean it and rotate it and not change it until you are told to you will be fine.
