You can go to housevalues.com. I did that recently. What they do is pass your information along to a realtor near you who will email you the appraisal. That's just a ballpark estimate based on recent sales of similar homes near you. It's not a formal appraisal like you would need if you refinanced or something. The estimate I goy was pretty accurate but I'm in a major metropolitan area where many similar houses are being bought and sold all the time. If you live in a small town where houses don't change hands very often it is hard to say what your house is worth until you actually sell it. Likewise if you have a very unique house.

I'm in wales and Darlows, Remax and there are others will do a free valuation.

But look out if you put it up for a private sale right after, they would probably sue you.

But if you have a Darlows I would add another 10 20 grand on top. My neighbour had them to value the house, they wasn't satisfied and went to Remax who added another 25 thousand on top of what Darlows said.

DON'T get it valued. The estate agents will never leave you alone.
Instead, look in your local paper and see how the nearby house prices are. Alternatively, search for your postcode and there'll normally be a website selling houses which'll give you a good idea.

Go to ourproperty.com.
You got to sign up but its unconditional and free and quite good, all you need is a postcode and it gives you details of properties sold in your area.

zillow is a US site.

Other sites don't cover where I live :) but I have a good idea of what I would take for it (not the same I know) as I built the house, finished a year ago.
