It had been under the water and was ground down by the sand and wave action for a long time. I could have turned it in to the hotel we were staying in, but I really don't think they would even try to find the owner. What do you think?

Yes it ok to keep it. I mean who ever lost it proably already gave up hope of finding it agian. And the hotel would probably not even care so its not wrong to keep it.

I'm sure the hotel has a listing of people who have lost items there. You should retun it to them. Or, if you are truly worried that someone may keep the ring, you should call and ask if anyone reported a ring missing and if they do them they should contact you.

Just imagine if that was your ring and 5, 10, 15 years later someone else found it and returned it! Imagine how awesome you would feel!

Give the hotel a call. You know it's the right thing to do...otherwise you wouldn't be asking...

I say keep it.. if you feel you found it fairly .. I'm not sure how to find something unfairly.. but still all the same.. if it makes you happy then I'm all for you to keep it.. I honestly believe that the hotel wont do what it takes to find the owner.. this might even be a chance for you to do some investigating your self and make some one very happy. and you get the satisfaction of knowing you did what you felt was best.

I can't tell you if it is right or wrong, you should do what you feel is right in your heart! :)

If it would make you feel better, post an add that says you found a ring (but don't describe it). Then if anyone calls and can describe it exactly - and tell you what beach it was lost at, then you can return it....and untill then you can enjoy it while you are waiting, and the chances are no one will ever claim it! :)

I don't think it was wrong to keep it. Did you at least post something in the hotel about it? Just leaving a message at the hotel would have been SOMETHING!

I say keep the ring also. It would be very hard to prove if it belonged to someone else without any distinguishing marks so since you found it it is yours.

Not wrong at all. I always see those guys with metal detectors roaming the beaches. They are not turning anything in. If you turned it into the hotel, they would have kept it for themselves.

i once found a 20 dollar bill in the school halls...i turned it in to security.

one year later they gave it to me because nobody claimed it:)

I guess at least try...or don't.

Whatever decision you make-go with it, and don't feel bad. it's probably not worth much anyways if it was laying in salt water for who knows HOW Long

I think that's mean - right now there's probably some poor fish swimming around looking for its lost ring.

I would keep it. Its one of those things where you dont know anyone, so how would you know if someone lied to you, saying it was theirs, but, it really wasnt, then they ended up pawning it.. Wouldnt that just tick you off?!?!?!? lol
