Universal National Service Act of 2006

To provide for the common defense by requiring all persons in the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes, as defined by the President.

The draft bills are a political stunt, but somewhat effective in pointing out that the Iraqi War would be over in an hour if there was any danger that middle class and wealthy people might see their children called to service.

Oh please. This has been trotted out every year since Bush took office in a lame attempt to undermine the Republican party. The hillarious part is that this bill was introduced by a Democrat. Republicans will not touch this bill with a 10-foot pole.

You probably believed it when Cameron Diaz said that electing Bush would lead to the legalization of rape. Right?

I don't think it is such a bad idea--if this is the case--It should start with the leaders first!!!!!!!! In the case of a two parent home where they have children any number of children or age one should have to serve starting immediately with the oldest people!!!!!! So the husband is older then the wife he should or if there is some excuse then the wife!!! But one should go!!! If we are going to enjoy all of our privilages then all should share in the responsibility!!!!

I am a 56 yo 8 yr USAF veteran, and compulsory service of some nature is overdue in the USA.
