Yes, for me it was 30p a text message, and I normally get free messages!

If that person does not pay for monthly test service then - YES - they get charged too.
You can (on my plan) pay $4.99 for unlimited text messages. We choose not tp pay that so we have to pay for every text we send and recieve. When I was overseas in May I could send text messages home for more money but the people receiving them just paid their 10 cents or regular fee.

Three years ago I texted regularly to the UK from Singapore and Dubai using Virgin. It was 30p per text and cost the receiver nothing.
Rules change, so check with your service provider.

I chose Virgin for that trip because they were the cheapest for text messenging. Voda were worst at about 90p per text charged to me and 30p to the receiver. They seem to write their own rules and change them as the wind blows. Always check with service provider even if you think you know!

It depends on location. In the USA gnerally both caller and receiver gets charged for the call, text or voice. In Asia, the caller pays for he call while the receiver is not charged.

Yes. I think so anyway.
Ring your mobile provider and ask them - that should be free.
