Find another church. Sorry but the one you're in now sounds a bit cultish.

I have serious concerns when church would turn down a request to unite a man and woman in marriage. This is what God wanted and they are not obeying. I was with my husband 10 years before we said "I do" before a minister. I'm not sure where the whole idea of going before a minister came from because in my studying of the bible and I didn't say reading, I said studying I have not found an offical ceremony as we know it today. They took a woman as their wife by going to her family. To me if you two acknowledge to one another that you are husband and wife and you will have no other that is a union in Gods sight. You can plan a ceremony with family and friends and say your vows in front of them and they can witness your union as husband and wife. Include the kids in the ceremony and that will put the whole family on one accord and you all will be equally yoked. When you light the unity candle that will seal you life and the two shall become one. If you want it to be recognized by the law of the land then you can go to the Justice of the Peace or find another minister to perform the nuptials. I will have to question the calling or the sincerity of your church if does not honor your request. The bible tells us that many are called but few are sent. Look for a minister who truly teaches from the bible but not only that study for yourself so that you will have an understanding and know when something is being taught correctly or incorrectly. Go ahead and make your plans, get excited and enjoy your day!!!!!!

I am so happy for you in your finding the true path!

Question... why do you feel the need to have your marriage solemnized in a brick and morter building/church? Did not the bible make it clear that where 2 or more gather in God's fellowship it is blessed? Then if it is blessed..no matter where you are it will be acknowledged by God as well as the state.

I'd suggest having a ceremony wherever you would like but not be set that the only "proper way" for it to be acknowledged by God is in a brick/church this simply is not so.

I am not a pastor or any form of clergy but I am reading my bible and doing my best to follow God's law.

All my best to you!

Congratulations on everything. I would talk to the pastor about letting you and your wife do this. If he says no again, find another church. You don't have to stop going to this one, just find another one to get married in. Unless of course by church you mean the religion you are affiliated with. In that case, do it anyway. I mean, who's to say you can't solemnize your marriage. Congrats again and good luck!

Consider this re-newing your wedding vows...many Church's hold specific ceremonies for those who wish to do just this or you can have a pastor come to a location of your choice and bless your renewal of your marital vows.

A Spiritualist or a Unitarian church will accommodate you. They are loving, welcoming and non-judgmental people. They will not try to convert you either into their religion...they will bless you and your union to follow whatever path you feel is right for you.
