Usually only in the major cities at banks.
I suggest you bring with you cash and then keep some with you and stash some away in your hotel room for use later. Because Africa is still a developing country, even credit/debit cards are not accepted everywhere. And if you do use them you get charged a fee from wherever you use them, plus a currency conversion fee from your bank. It winds up costing more than it's worth, in my opinion.

The travellers cheques are usually the safest ones to use while in Africa due to credit/debit card charges charged by banks. The cards are also only in use in major cities and banks in some of the African countries.
However before you set on a safari to Africa, it is good to check some of the services that are available and those that are not. In some countries, some credit cards will not be accepted.

Totally depends on which country, city, etc. To get a real answer you need to be more specific. (the equivalent question is: Can American Express traveler's cheques be cashed in Asia/North America/South America/Australia/Europe?)

Depending on what African country you are traveling to, not all accept travelers cheques, many countries are still progressing with today's technology. Credit cards, etc..are rarely used but if its a high tourism African country than your best bet is yes but I would research the country you are traveling to (esp city) and locate banks in that area. Can always email them and inquire..or ask a travel agency. Good luck!

credit enjoying cards and travellers checks issued via U.S. Banks can't be utilized in Cuba because of the fact of U.S. regulations against commerce with Cuba. you may take U.S. distant places funds and substitute at any distant places funds substitute, banks and maximum lodges (keep away from replacing at lodges as this could properly be a ripoff). verify the U.S. State branch website as properly because of the fact the Cuban financial employer web pages for modern-day substitute expenses. The Cubans charge one extra 10% fee to interchange USD to CUC (the Cuban vacationer distant places funds).
