why do kids rub their eyes when they are tired?

Kids aren't the only ones who do that...i still do it. Anyway, I think it's because when your body is tired, it stops producing moisture for your eyes. (kind of assuming that your eyes should be closed)

When they're tired, it's meant they're sleepy, there's tears in their eyes, so they rub their eyes in order to keep they stay-awake.

because their eyes start to burn and they rub them to make it go away. It's kind of like scratching an insect bite. It itches so you scratch it.
