I hear you in the "jealous" department, it's kindof like one of those Red Sox Trades where they get Josh Beckett for the guy who sells Fenway Franks in section 20, and season tickets to the Bruins. While we trade the farm for Esteban Loaiza, I know how those trades work, and it would be good to finally get one of those in our favor.

to the Detroit fan and rest of the Yankees Haters FOXsports.com is reporting this in their rumor mill, so no I am not "dreaming" this up.

The thing that makes this a possibility is the fact that Bobby Abreu has a ridiculous contract. It's so huge, it's unbelievable, and he's going to get paid even more next year. This is the type of thing that the Yankees are known for taking. And this is what would make the trade fair.

Abreu isn't making any friends in Philly. He's not the leader they need him to be, and he's not hitting for the power that they want from him. If he were to join the Yankees, he'd be just another big ego in a dugout full of them, and somehow that takes the pressure off a guy like him. He'd be able to do his thing, hit singles and steal bases, let A-Rod take the criticism and let Jeter lead the team. I think he'd flourish hitting behind Giambi and in front of Posada.

The Phillies now know they aren't going anywhere this year. It's time to make some plans for the future, and that's what they're doing. They need pitching, and the Yankees have done a good job making everyone think Philip Hughes is the next Roy Halladay.

They need another outfielder, and they need a number five starter. that lets them give Damon and Williams rest when they need it, and it will let them move Ponson and Chacon to the bullpen for good.

It seems lopsided on paper, but remember that baseball is a business and that's why things like this happen. It's a very real possibility, and everyone who says it's ridiculous doesn't know that much about Major League Baseball.

If the Yanks can pull it off without giving up top prospects, then they've got a steal. Abreu is an absolute stud, and should help an offense that isn't exactly poor to start with. If they can keep him long-term, then it becomes an even better deal.

As for Lieber, he's just a guy that the Phils will make the Yankees take as a salary dump. He hasn't been effective much this year, but I guess he can't be any worse than Chacon or Ponson. He could serve as a 4th or 5th starter in New York and still pick up some wins.

As a Jays' fan, this type of trade just makes me jealous. But more power to the Yankees and their fans - I'd love to have an owner who will do whatever it takes to win.

Its only a rumour.

I seriously doubt Phillies would trade Abreu for two prospects, two Class A prospects at that. Yankees are only offering that because other teams have backed off from trying to acquire Abreu.

This trade is as lopsided as you can get.

I dont think that this is true but not completely imposible. The phillies are going to want better prospects but they would love to get rid of abreus huge salary over the next 2 years.

abreu has slumped ever since last years all star game, hes hit 8 and i said 8 homers this year. his average is below .300. he still has a good eye and will get stolen bases but i dont think he will help the yankees that much.

This is why I hate trade rumors, obviously you're a Yankees fan so I'll ask you this, why would Philadelphia do this trade? If the situation were reversed would you make this trade?

Before putting any light on these rumors ask yourself those questions.
