Drill holes in the stump and pour Round-Up in the holes. If you're worried about surrounding plants, you can use rock salt. It worked for a Crepe Myrtle tree that we removed.

Your best bet is to get something labled for brush control. Get the concentrated form and cut the bark on the new shoots and brush the undiluted herbicide on the wound. this is called the prill method. In the future when you remove a tree spray the trunk immediately after cutting the tree down.

try putting Roundup on the sprouts. There is also a heavy duty version for brush and bushes, I think.

If its one of those japanese emporess,they are hard to kill.I used glyphosate 360(roundup) and it still grew after a while.Then a gardener used blackberry and something on it and it died.
