There is a book out there called "The Writer's Market" It's about 700 pages and I think it costs $30.00.

It is re-published every year and is a list of every publisher in the U.S.

You can find publishers that are strictly accustomed to publishing poetry, find all of their contact information, and how to submit work.

You should never have to pay anything out of pocket in order to get your work published.

You should only pay for publishing if you are self publishing. The downside is these books usually do not sell very well because you have to self promote them. Be careful if you decide to go this route. Lots of crooks. And also if you self promote don't be overly pushy. It's just like shooting yourself in the foot.

It would be much better to go through a publishing house. If it is not a company where you would self publish, they will pay you, not you pay them. Otherwise they are a bunch of crooks and you should run away from them.

Writers Market is an excellent source. You also might try:
www.preditorsandeditors.com
which has tons of information about the publishing industry and publishing companies. It also has a listing of which companies to stay away from.

Good Luck!

I thought publishers get percentages out of the sale, not money out of your pocket. Try making a deal with them to do percentages, that way if it's bad you want pay a dime.
